As a third generation driver, Taylor began racing dirt oval go-karts at age 12. At age 16 he moved into dirt open wheel modified racing. He primarily competes in DIRTcar UMP sanctioned events. While touring eastern United States he frequently visits dirt ovals in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Outside of racing, Taylor works for GM Motorsports on the NASCAR data acquisition team.
The Cook family's racing history began with Taylor's grandfather, Harold Cook who competed in asphalt stock cars in northern Ohio. Taylor's father, Jerry Cook raced asphalt late models as well as some ARCA along with his brother Terry Cook. Terry went on to compete in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Jerry as his crew chief. Now, Jerry is an accomplished car chief in the NASCAR Cup series.
